Abstract

Traditional methods to build power system equivalents lose information about transmission line thermal limits in the external system. In this paper, the construction of an equivalent system with the ability to preserve line limits is presented. The application of Kron’s reduction is supplemented with a PTDF-based approach to calculate line limits for equivalent lines of the reduced system. This technique is applied to test systems, and results are discussed.
